3 Steps to Take NOW to Confidently Build the Brand You Want

You do have a choice and can absolutely get what you want. The biggest part lies in the knowing. Here is where most leaders get stuck…they don’t know what they want.

Think of a time in your life when you wanted something really badly. You wanted it so badly that you were willing to invest the extra effort and let nothing get in your way. You were determined. You stretched yourself. You operated at a higher level.

The steps you took when going after what you wanted in the past are the same steps you can take now to build the brand you want.

STEP 1: Get Clear on What You Want

What do you want and how do you want to be known? The power lies in making that decision for yourself, not based on what others think is reasonable. Be fearless about declaring it and boldly go after it. No apologizing allowed. This is all about you and your life.

Don’t limit yourself in any way. Don’t stop yourself at what you think you can get. Here is where you want to pull out all the stops and go for what you want.

STEP 2: Stay Focused on Who You Need To Be

Who do you need to be as you are going after what you want? You have control over who you are in any given situation. If you know the person you want to be and focus on creating that experience in every interaction it is more likely you will achieve your desired result.

Too often I hear leaders justify their behaviour or decisions based on what someone else has done or said. The truth: no one can make you! If you choose to react, you are giving away your power and control. If you start with the clear intention of who you want to be, you are more likely to respond in a way that creates the impression you desire. You are in charge of the person you become, no one else.

Ask yourself: Who do I need to be to get what I want?

STEP 3: Plan For What You Need To Do

What is it you need to be doing to go after what you want? Breaking down the big want into smaller steps is your starting point. This allows you to see that getting to the end result is a process and that it doesn’t all happen at one time. Having a plan in place builds your confidence in knowing what comes next and helps to keep you focused.

You need to take a no-excuses approach. A good strategy never includes, “I don’t have enough time” or “I’m too busy”, it just doesn’t cut it. Breaking down what you want into smaller steps makes what might seem impossible, possible.

Ask yourself: What do I need to do to get what I want? The combination of these three steps provides you with the three foundational questions that will guide you in building the brand you want. The success you achieve is up to you!
